About Amy

Two decades photographing Broadway, Chicago, magazine spreads and documentary projects. What I've learned: the best photographs aren't about what you see. They're about what you feel.

The Work

As a theater and editorial photographer, my work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Forbes, Fortune, Variety, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune and other national and international publications.

I specialize in the intersection of art and humanity, whether that’s capturing a split-second moment on stage or the strength in someone’s eyes during a portrait session.

The Teaching

I’m an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where I teach visual storytelling and multimedia journalism. I earned my master’s degree in journalism from Medill in 2023, specializing in magazine journalism (with a third quarter in the Integrated Marketing Communications cohort in San Francisco).

Teaching keeps me sharp. My students push me to articulate not just the how but the why behind every frame.

The Podcast

I created and host Speaking of Phenomenal Podcast. It’s a space for conversations with remarkable women doing extraordinary things. It’s an extension of the same curiosity that drives my photography: What makes someone come alive? What stories are we not telling?

The Legacy

Photography runs deep in my family. Three of my four sons are pursuing professional careers in journalism, fine art and documentary work. Watching them find their own voices reminds me why this work matters.
